tabs for styrofoam plates (thanks to brandon)
verse:
e||----------|----------|------5--4-|-1~~~~~~|-0~~~~~~||
b||-----0----|--------0-|-----------|-1~~~~~~|-0~~~~~~||
g||----------|--2-------|---4-------|-2~~~~~~|-1~~~~~~||o
d||--2-----2-|-----0----|-----------|--------|--------||o
a||0---------|----------|-----------|--------|--------||
e||----------|2---------|0----------|--------|--------||
when the drums come in, guitar 2 plays:
d||--7~~~~~|-4~~~~~~|-2~~~~~~~|-3~~~~~~|-2~~~~~~||
(with a tremolo effect)
if anyone actually cares, the song is in 3/4, so where i have things broken up into measures would actually include more like 12 beats, though i just made it so each beat was on the 1 for what should be three beats per measure (did that really make any sense?).
bridge:
e||---------------------------------------------------||
b||---------5---2-------------------------------------||
g||-----1---------------4---1--------------------1h2--||o
d||-----------------------------------2---1-----------||o
a||-0-----0---0-----0-----0-----0------0----0---------||
e||---------------------------------------------------||
it's really hard to tell what the second guitar is doing in the bridge, i
think he may just be picking out chords that go along with what the bass is
playing:
bass (something like this):
g||---9-----9-----9-----9--|----8-----8-----8-----8---|----
d||-7-----7-----7-----7----|--9-----9-----9-----9-----|----
a||-------- (x2) ----------|---------- (x2) ----------|----
e||------------------------|--------------------------|----
g||---6-----6-----6-----6--|--------------------------||
d||-7-----7-----7-----7----|--4---4---4---4---4---4---||o
a||-------- (x2) ----------|---------- (x2) ----------||o
e||------------------------|--------------------------||
(once again, remember the whole measure thing)
just before the last verse, they hit an E chord three times.
then one plays the verse from above while the other strums the corresponding chords. the ending is basically the part from the bridge, only distorted, with the vocal melody singing along. also throughout the song there's a bit of piano in the background that lingers back and forth between a high A and a high G# (just for the sake of being acurate).
lyrics
there's a saltwater film on the jar of your ashes:
i threw them to sea but a gust blew them backwards
and the sting in my eyes that you then inflicted
was par for the course just as when you were living.
it's no stretch to say you were not quite a father
but a donor of seeds to a poor single mother
that would raise us alone, we never saw the money
that went down your throat through the hole in your belly.
thirteen years old in the suburbs of denver
standing in line for Thanksgiving dinner
at the catholic chuch. the servers wore crosses
to shield from the sufferance plauging the others.
styrofoam plates, cafateria tables
charity reeks of cheap wine and pity
and i'm thinking of you. i do every year
when we count all our blessings
and wonder what we're doing here.
you're a disgrace to the concept of family
the priest won't divulge that fact in his homily
and i'll stand up and scream if the mourning remain quiet,
you can deck out a lie in a suit but i won't buy it.
i won't join in the procession that's speaking their peace.
using five dollar words while praising his integrity.
and just cause he's gone it doesn't change the fact:
he was a bastard in life thus a bastard in death.
