In the intro section & verses, Alex is gently finger picking his electric's
strings using his middle & ring fingers but, he picks the bass notes on the
A string, which he lets ring out, with his fulcrum (guitar pick) for the
most part except where noted. He also sounds like he uses the guitar pick
for notes played on the D string as well most of the time, while fingering
the G string. Practice the technique to get the feel, timing & sound right.

He then switches to only using his guitar pick until the next verse and so
on and so forth.

Note the subtle 7th & 9th chords used in the choruses.
